The conversion of the horse cart shed in Williton, Somerset is nearing completion. The barn is not listed but sits within the curtilage of a grade II listed cottage. NTAD gained Listed Building Consent and planning approval to convert the barn into a one bedroom dwelling and included detailed discussions with the Conservation Officer over the renovation specification.
Horse Cart Cottage (as it will be known) required a new roof structure over the historic roof timbers as they were inadequately sized to support the new combined weight of the natural slates, insulation and plasterboard. This presented an opportunity to leave the historic timbers (of which there are many!) exposed internally complimenting the lime washed stone walls.
The cottage has been renovated to be let as a rental property when complete.
