We specialise in turning your ideas into reality

Nick Thorne

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER

BA Hons DipArch

At NTAD we take a down to earth approach in helping guide people with great ideas navigate their way through the design process to turn dreams into reality.

We understand that every client and site are unique and use this approach to inform our designs. Unrestricted by a defined style we can offer maximum flexibility in reaching the right design for the right place.

We care about how our buildings look and how they make us feel. We aim to enhance natural light, capture views and consider how different spaces work together so our homes feel comfortable and joyful places to live.

We take an holistic approach to improve energy efficiency and can provide retrofit strategies to reduce your carbon footprint. Our thought process extends to the outside with opportunities to enhance biodiversity for wildlife, harvest rainwater and pollinator friendly planting suited to even the smallest garden.

Nick’s experience of design, the construction process and best path to achieving a completed building give him a fully rounded deep understanding of what it takes to bring client led ideas to reality.

Some of Nick’s projects have won awards which is great! However some of the most satisfying results are often those that improve the lives of his Clients by unpicking poorly functioning, inefficient homes and making them fit for modern living.

About NTAD

Nick Thorne Architectural Design began in autumn 2011. Originally from Taunton and having previously worked at a series of highly regarded Architects both in the West Country and Bedfordshire, Nick was keen to set up a different type of practice, one which put the client at the heart of everything he does.

Nick is passionate about crafting buildings that contribute to the rural landscape, often taking inspiration from neighbouring buildings, finding creative ways to capture views, or enhancing dark spaces with natural light.

‘I feel very lucky to work in an area of amazing natural beauty which is full of interesting and unique buildings. It is always a pleasure to meet new clients and work with them to create beautiful, sustainable and liveable homes’.

In his spare time Nick can often be found running around after his son Austin or cycling over the moor.
