Peephole Cottage

Oak framed kitchen extension

(Historic Building Award Nominee)

Peephole Cottage is a modest Grade II Listed dwelling constructed with cob walls and a thatched roof, typical of a 17th Century Somerset house. The original floor plan included a very narrow kitchen and lacked any formal dining space. The beautiful garden was inaccessible due to floor level changes and garden structures obscuring views from the house. The proposal was to create a rear extension to accommodate a new kitchen and dining space with significantly improved views and connectivity with the garden. An oak framed extension sits within the garden with a flat roofed link structure connecting onto the rear of the cottage. Traditional materials include handmade bricks laid in a Flemish bond pattern, rolled lead sheet roofing with a standing seam detail, oak cladding and slate roofing and cills.
